January feels like a gold kind of month. We carefully pulled the headbands that are either gold or gold-themed and put them all in one place.

So why gold? Gold represents wealth and success. 

When you’re trying to hit that new mile time, that new max snatch weight, or find an inner piece at the studio - gold might help you get in the mindset before the trial, so you can succeed. When hockey players prep for their games, they put on their equipment in a very specific order. They wrap their sticks with just the right amount of tape so it rolls the right way. They drink their Gatorade with their left hand. They leave the locker room in a certain order. It’s a ritual rooted in superstition but gets the players so focused and ready for the game they unleash their best every time. 

A study published in 2017 in the National Library of Medicine suggested that rituals lessen performance anxiety. While it might not actually impact performance, the participants were arguably in a clear mindset to perform their best.
