Behind the Scenes with Brittany Allen
Q: Â
How has your design aesthetic evolved since your time on Project Runway, and what factors have influenced this transformation?Â
A: Â
I would say I’ve become more in tune with what people want to buy since competing on Project Runway. Â
Â
On the show, you really want to create and tap into a creativity that you can’t at home due to things like budget, time restraints, and the worry of bringing an income, but running a successful business is different than what you see on TV. Â
Â
I will say I am much quicker at my craft after having to sew that fast, but after competing, I realized I really want to be a part of the customers life journey instead of being one outfit they wear once and put in the back of their closet.Â
Â
Â
Q:Â
How does your personal experience with fitness and wellness influence your design choices, especially in activewear?Â
A:Â
It’s a huge influence. It wasn’t until the pandemic that I realized how boring activewear truly is (no offense to other brands). Â
The neutral scheme can only go so far when you’re trying to be inspired or motivated to do something. Â
I found that people were starving for exciting activewear, and I was definitely one of those people. There was a huge gap in the market and I knew that I could bring exciting, fun clothes to fitness which in turn motivates a person to move their body. Â

Q:Â
What aspects of JUNK Brands' mission and products inspired you to collaborate with us?Â
A:Â
I’m a really big fan of prints. I love bright colors. It’s not often that you find brands that embrace it and run with that. I think it’s important to bring something to the industry, to consumers and people’s everyday lives that is exciting, different, and sparks creativity while bringing joy. Â
I think the wide range of products that JUNK provides really resonates with me as an all inclusive, colorful, playful, fashion designer that I am. Plus, Arkansans gotta stick together!Â
Â
Q:Â
What does empowerment through fashion mean to you? Â
A:Â
I truly believe that what we wear should make us feel a certain way. Often times when I’m dressing myself, I don’t really dress for the mood that I’m currently in. I dress for the mood and the confidence that I want to project. It could make a person feel confident and bold just by what they put on their body.Â
Â
Q:Â
How do you envision your designs empowering individuals in their athletic and everyday pursuits?Â
A:Â
I think, when someone feels sexy, they feel their best, their clothes fit and feel good, they will want to perform. They will want to move, and therefore, when you bring exciting clothes to something that really has been neglected for so long, it almost makes fitness more fun and hopefully empowers the person to take care of themselves through movement. Â
Â
Q:Â
What’s a day in the life of Brittany Allen like?  Â
A:Â
It’s pretty wild every single day. And it’s always different. I have a lot on my plate. I do everything within the business so I’m so glad I have a team to help me sew and produce garments for consumer orders. Each day, I am working on marketing, developing new products, making new prints, speaking directly to consumers for customer service, or making custom garments for celebrities and fitness personalities. It’s always exciting and fresh!Â
Â
Q:Â
Are there any personal rituals or habits that keep you inspired and creative? Â
A:Â
I listen to a lot of music. I know that to some, music can be very distracting, but for me, it actually mutes all the other noise in my brain to where I can focus and create without distraction.Â
Â
Q:Â
Can you give us a sneak peek into what’s next for you? Are there any exciting plans or projects on the horizon you can share with us? Â
A:Â
I really want to try to bring more active apparel to the industry for different, specific types of movement. I really want to get into more sportswear that is specific to the sport they’re dressing for. I like tennis and I am into golf a little more recently, so I’m trying to tap into that golf and tennis apparel but bring it into a fashion forward place. It’s currently all the same. Â
Â
Q:Â
Always Forward is JUNK Brands Tag line... What does Always Forward mean to you?Â
A:Â
Forward is the only way to go. If we’re looking in the rearview mirror, we’re not making any progress. It’s always about being better and moving forward in your life: progressing, learning, adapting to anything really is always a step forward and it’s that direction that I try to motivate others to move their bodies with my designs and feel good while doing it.  Â
