Childhood Cancer Awareness Month | Our Partnership with ACNW and Gracelyn Lee

Gracelyn Lee, a spirited first-grader from Fayetteville, Arkansas, shines with a personality that can light up any room. At just 7 years old, Gracelyn is already an experienced cattle showman and dreams of becoming a veterinarian. Nearly two years ago, her family's world changed when they noticed her abdomen was unusually enlarged. What they initially thought was a minor issue turned into a devastating diagnosis of Wilms tumor, a type of kidney cancer that primarily affects children.

Despite many challenges, Gracelyn remained remarkably positive, becoming actively involved in her own care.

Since August 2023, Gracelyn has been cancer-free and continues to thrive, regularly visiting her oncology team at ACNW. This journey has impacted her family, bringing them closer and fostering a new appreciation for life.

Arkansas Children’s is expanding to better serve children like Gracelyn, with a project aimed at enhancing pediatric care across its campuses. Arkansas Children’s historic, $318 million, system-wide expansion—which includes an $83 million dollar investment needed for Arkansas Children’s Northwest—will increase access to pediatric care, enhance exceptional outcomes for children and elevate patient experience. The expansion project at ACNW will include added surgical space, more operating rooms, procedure rooms, hospital beds and additional clinic space.

JUNK partners with Arkansas Children’s Northwest (ACNW) every year because we believe in supporting the fierce fighters in our community, just like Gracelyn Lee. Gracelyn’s resilience and positivity throughout her battle with cancer embody the JUNK spirit—pushing through challenges and embracing every moment with courage and determination. By partnering with ACNW, we stand with heroes like Gracelyn, who inspire us to keep moving forward, no matter the odds.
